Happy Lunar New Year 2013

Well it's Lunar New Year today and as usual I've decided not to write lots but just to say it with pictures. So here goes.
Went back for a quick visit to the Crocosaurus cove, this is a place in Darwin's downtown area that has Crocs in it. You would never know it when you walk by. Last year we went for the first time and because we live in the NT we can go back free for 1 year. So went back one last time.

We had a monsoon trough show up and we had rain and windy days for almost 2 weeks. The back yard was a mess. It is the only time during one of these troughs that you actually see white caps on the bay that we face. Normally it's as flat as glass. One weird thing about Darwin is even though we are on the ocean there isn't much of a breaze.

It was Australia Day in January and all I can say is boy some manufacturers a pretty patriotic. Here are some of the items that were on sale. We got the Cookies, Paper Towels, Tomato Sause and Kleenex.

They also had a UTE rally (pickup trucks), they pay $5 drive thru the main street for many kms and have huge flags on their UTEs. It lasted for more than 1/2 an hour. It's probably just a Darwin thing but still it's great to see people that love their country.

A friend of mine retired from work so we went to his retirement party the location is on Fanny Bay which is very beautiful.

We visited the Territory Wildlife Park again and this time we saw an owl in the bird show. She was beautiful and she put on quite a show for everyone.

Taken with L's super zoom camera. When it works it does a good job.

A very big bird misnamed the Jabaru.

Albino snake, boy was this sucker heavy. I can see the attraction people have to snakes. Not that I'm getting one.
Trying out the furniture in 1 configuration.

Pizza man or Pillow Boy.

Enjoying Darwin life, not much else to do than sit outside under an umbrella in the hot weather reading a book. Actually not much indoor stuff gets done because from living in Canada we are so used to making the most of the good weather back home that when it's nice we go outside. I still haven't gotten over that feeling of having to be outside when the weather is nice.
That grass hopper is really the size of my finger.

To all our Asian friends that celebrate the Lunar New Year we wish you health and happiness.

OK so the incense got a little to much. I guess I'm incen-sitive.
Yup living the life in 3D, someones gotta do it.

It's a New Year

Well it's the new year and since I'm getting lazy in my old age I figured I'd just tell what's been going on for the last 2 months through pictures and videos.
So here goes
This dude slithered thru the backyard one day. Sadly it was not Ralph. Gladly it was someone else. We had also seen 2 baby blue tongues on our travels around which is a good thing as their numbers are on the decline due to eating baby cane toads.

Kept going back to the Wharf for soup, fish and chips. Always remembering to bring a bag of cut up bread for the fish.

Went to Paul's Christmas Party.
Made a Christmas card.
Luna wore her BAT dress to her company Christmas party. Yup bought this back in July in Canada just for this day.

Drove to Katherine for 3 hours got there but due to the fact that it was low tourist season and Christmas week all tours were closed. Got a $75 ice cream and drove back. Ok that ice cream included the price of Petrol.

Tried a new way to keep the sugar ants off the bread. That's water in the lower cup. I guess ants don't swim.

Went to the Territory Wildlife Park. Definitely a recommend.

Saw this little guy a Tawney Frog Mouth. He's not an owl, looks like one but just isn't.

This is a kookaburra.

Got brave with a croc, thru 5cm of glass.

L took some really nice pics with her camera.

I like the reflection in this one.
Made a new friend at the Wildlife Park.

Celebrated new years outside. Boy was that hot.

Got all crazy on New Years Eve. Ok just crazy for pictures.

Marveled at the power of the wet season.
Thought that this was the funnies sticker ever. Only in Australia would they use the word DODGY.

Tried on some cool Australia day glasses that also double as a bottle opener.
Found the only safe place to go in the water in Darwin is the big puddle that forms on the driveway during all the rain we are having this wet season.

It's been more that 2 months

Well it's been quite a while since I've written one of these so I'm going show what's been happening through pictures and videos.
Won big at the Casino we now win $8

Went on the relay for life with my company. I was part of the running team we took turns at running around the track all night.

L came for the start and went home to sleep as someone needed to be awake to drive home.

Tried a new buffet restaurant down at the wharf. Buffet FAIL!

Looked sexy in a silly hat.

Looked like I lost something in the grass when I was actually transplanting some plants from here to our garden

Wore a silly hat a McDonalds.

Tried out some funny photography.

Gave gang signs.

Ate low scale and cheap in the CBD in Darwin. $35 is low scale ?

Celebrated the impending arrival of Christmas by eating minced pies/tarts

Took up a new hobby of feeding the fish a loaf of bread at Cullen Bay.

No more food for the fish.

Did a silly jumping cover for our Perils Of Paul with Luna Facebook page.

Had a huge spider as a house guest.
Took a picture weekly going up the escalator to shop at the down-town  Darwin Coles for groceries.

Ate at the Darwin Wharf but took measures to make it cheaper.
  1. Brought own water
  2. Brought fresh buns from Coles. But the fish looked like they needed them more than we did so we fed the buns to the fish. This is the other place we love to feed the fish.
  3. Brought our own Ketchup because they want to charge us $1 for some.
  4. Brought our own salad.
  5. Brought our own can of Coke because they want $2.90 for one. Yikes !

Found a really beautiful blossom on a tree.

Ate at Skycity at the $10 buffet.

Munched on some watermelon outside on a Sunday.
Tried on the Santa Suit for the upcoming run.

Celebrated L's mums passing in the garden.

Trained for 3 months for the Variety Village 2k Santa Run only to find out that it was so crowded that it ended up being a  walk. But I'm still running and in a little better shape but I feel like an 100 year old.

Grew a moustache for Movember and was glad to shave it off.
Couldn't stop laughing during a video shoot. Notice all the grey in my beard.

Looked sleepy holding the 2nd graduate this year.
Before and After. Cutting it short because of the Australian summer is so hot.
The back.

Compared our two graduate frogs sizes. The big one is the biggest one we have ever grown. Now we have to worry about frog obesity.

Loved the fact that Australia has 10 types of minced pies of all prices.

Brought doughnuts from another store to McDonalds to enjoy with a McCafe Latte. We also shared a  McHappy Meal so we didn't feel so guilty.
